Did the wiseman know that scripture foretold of the star proclaiming the birth of the “King of the Jews”? Evidence in scripture indicates it’s possible. First, scripture records the prophecy of “the star” in Numbers 24:17, “A star shall come out of Jacob (Israel); a scepter (a King) shall rise out of Israel…” So, how would these wise men have access to scripture? Scripture indicates in Matthew 2:1 the wise men came from the east. Scripture also teaches how the Israelites were taken captive to Babylon, east of Israel (modern day Iraq). They would live in captivity in Babylon several years. Evidence indicates that the faithful Jews, including Daniel, had access to scripture through scrolls and oral tradition!
